Bassam El Baroni is a curator and art critic based in Alexandria, Egypt. He is the cofounder and director of the collectively run, nonprofit art space Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum (ACAF), which has been in operation since 2005. Baroni's recent curatorial projects include You, Me, and the Trajectories of a Post-Everything Era at PROGR Bern, Switzerland, and ACAF (2005–6); Cleotronica 08, Alexandria's first international media art festival (2008); and Trapped in Amber: Angst for a Re-Enacted Decade, co-curated with Helga-Marie Nordby at UKS, Oslo (2009). Baroni was the curator of ACAF's contribution to Manifesta 8 (2010) along with associate curator Jeremy Beaudry, and Manifesta 8 was collaboratively curated by ACAF together with the Chamber of Public Secrets and Tranzit.org. Baroni has also lately begun developing and performing a series of dramatized lectures entitled FOXP2. His most recent installment was accompanied by musical beats generated by the beat-boxer Kenny Muhammad.
