Craig Dykers cofounded the architecture and design firm Snøhetta in 1989. The firm has designed a wide range of cultural projects around the world, from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt to the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion in New York.

Their designs are characterized by their intimacy and the way in which they invite the public to interact with and even appropriate them. Often developed to be agents of change, many of Snøhetta's cultural projects have created platforms for significant positive change in the societies around them.

The talk will acknowledge the fact that cultural projects in the public realm are not defined merely by their program or facade, but also by the people who use them. Current Snøhetta projects include the redesign of Times Square and the expansion of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

The 2010–11 Architecture Lecture Series is funded by Grants for the Arts / San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund; HDR Architecture; Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, Inc.; Pfau Long Architecture; ROMA Design Group; Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP; SmithGroup; WRNS Studio; Jensen Architects; Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects; BraytonHughes Design Studios; Cass Calder Smith; Fennie + Mehl Architects; GCI, Inc.; Levy Design Partners; SRG Partnership; Ratcliff; Ryan Associates; BIOS Design Collective; and Andrea Cochran.
