Sam Weber and Jillian Tamaki are successful freelance illustrators based in Brooklyn. They will discuss their work, process, and illustration journey. The lecture will be followed by a reception from 9-10 p.m. in the Timken reception area.

Sam Weber (www.sampaints.com) was born in Alaska, and grew up in Deep River, Ontario, Canada. After attending the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, he moved to New York to pursue illustration and attend graduate school at The School of Visual Arts. His clients include the New Yorker, the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Tor Books, Scholastic, Sony/BMG, Playboy, Time magazine, DC/Vertigo Comics, Random House, ESPN, Wired, Penguin, SPIN, Flaunt, Herman Miller, the Atlantic, and BusinessWeek.

Jillian Tamaki (www.jilliantamaki.com) is an illustrator and comic artist. She grew up on the Canadian Prairies and attended school at the Alberta College of Art and Design. She teaches at the School of Visual Arts. Her clients include the New York Times, the New Yorker, National Geographic, the Washington Post, Marvel, Drawn & Quarterly, Fantagraphics, Penguin Books, Fast Company, and Esquire. She has won the Society of Illustrators gold award, the New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Books, and the Society of Publication Designers gold award.
