Wilsonart International chose CCA’s Furniture Program for their 2012 Wilsonart Challenge, a design scholarship program fostering the careers of emerging furniture designers. Each year, this competition calls upon students at a designated design school to create unique, conceptual, expressive chairs featuring particular Wilsonart products.
This year, the CCA students were asked to immerse themselves in the ethos of California: to examine both the state’s contribution to the human-made world and the unique phenomena of its nature. Special consideration was given to the question “What is California design?”
Since the mid-20th century, California has pioneered seminal design solutions. How can today’s students be more aware of this legacy? They were additionally tasked with featuring Wilsonart’s wood grain collection of laminates.
