Jaime Velez is a director in charge of the Interiors Group in the Chicago office of SOM. He has participated in a large number of architectural and interiors projects in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
His role in the design process provides insight for identification of opportunities in the feasibility phases of a project. He implements and guides the design strategy and then coordinates and develops the concepts with the architectural and engineering disciplines and consultants.
Velez brings to his projects a strong architectural background, which in conjunction with his knowledge of furniture and detailing generates integral designs with a high degree of consistency from the whole to the pieces. He believes that a space should reflect the unique characteristics of the culture of its users. Building on the strong interiors tradition at SOM, his projects possess a timeless quality and a strong sense of order and clarity.
