Painting Expanded brings together a diverse group of internationally recognized artists from New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco for a daylong series of discussions about contemporary painting, in order to expand the critical dialogue and concerns of the painting community at CCA and beyond.
Discussions will delve into issues of material, context, and theory as well as variations in academic culture, writing/criticism, and the market. These conversations will provide social and historical framework and commentary that links these artists’ practices with everyday life.
This is a unique opportunity for students, faculty, and the larger community to gather for a series of distinct perspectives on the past, present, and future of painting.
