Andrew Kudless established Matsys in 2004. It is an architectural design studio that explores the emergent relationships among architecture, engineering, biology, and computation, taking as a premise the idea that architecture can be understood as a material body with its own form, growth, and behavior. The studio's work ranges from speculative and built projects to the crafting of new tools that facilitate an interdisciplinary architectural approach. Kudless has taught and lectured widely; among his many awards has been a Fulbright Fellowship to research architectural design and urbanism in the Kansai region of Japan.

The Architecture Lecture Series is funded by Field Paoli Architects, Jensen Architects, BKBC Architects Inc., BraytonHughes Design Studios, Cass Calder Smith, David Baker + Partners Architects, Heller Manus Architects, HKIT Architects, Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects, Marc L'Italien / EHDD Architecture, NicholsBooth Architects, Ratcliff, SRG Partnership, and Toby Levy, with additional support from ELS Architecture and Urban Design.
