Beijing-born architect Yung Ho Chang is one of the world's most closely watched Chinese architects. Chang spent 15 years studying and teaching in the United States before returning to Beijing in 1993 to open Atelier FCJZ (feichang jianzhu), which translates as "unusual architecture." FCJZ was Beijing's first private architectural firm and has helped define a broad notion of what Chinese architectural practice can be. In fall 2005 Chang will chair the Department of Architecture at MIT.
