Steven Heller is the art director of the New York Times Book Review and cochair of the School of Visual Arts MFA Program in Design. Heller is the recipient of the 1999 AIGA Medal for Lifetime Achievement. He is also the author, editor, or coeditor of over ninety books on graphic design, design history, and poplar culture, including Design Literacy, Citizen Designer, and Merz to Émigré and Beyond: Avant-Garde Magazine Design of the Twentieth Century. Heller is currently writing a book on totalitarian graphics of the twentieth century.
