CCACeramics presents the varied work of graduates from both the BFA and MFA programs in ceramics from California College of the Arts. This presentation is enhanced by artwork of faculty and technicians whose contribution to the college, ceramics, and the art field has been noteworthy.
The show also provides a rich opportunity to consider the significant influence CCA artists, as students and instructors, have had using clay as an artistic medium. While many graduates continued with clay as their medium of choice, others moved toward different expressions whose development and success were informed by their earlier ceramic study. These areas include painting, glass, video, wood, installation, and film.
Approximately 90 works of both two- and three-dimensional art will be on view. The work, provided by the artists or borrowed from private collections, will include intimate pieces and masterful accomplishments. Some works on display will be from the college's own collection.
Artists whose work is represented in the exhibition include Art Nelson, Robert Arneson, Peter Voulkos, Karen Koblitz, Lawrence LaBianca, Maggie Larsen, Lana Renfroe, Robert Brady, Ruth Rippon, Viola Frey, Ann Weber, John de Fazio and many others. Additionally, photographs and other ephemera documenting the evolution of the program will be included.
CCACeramics is sponsored by the Ceramics Program and is organized by a committee headed by Arthur Gonzalez, Ceramics chair; John Toki, adjunct professor of Sculpture; and Nancy M. Servis, senior lecturer in the history of ceramics.
