Awesome recognizes the resurgence of the aesthetics of the sublime in recent representations by contemporary artists using a variety of media. The sublime is not a dilapidated aesthetic, which can be invoked only ironically. How/why are West Coast artists addressing this topic? Their methods range from the philosophical to the idiosyncratic, the humorous to the horrific.
