Born in Vietnam, brought up in Denmark, and now living and working in Germany, Danh Vo creates work that reconceives ideas of identity and appropriation. He has used theft from a lover, for example, as an artistic strategy, exhibiting the stolen artifact as his own work of art. Since 2002 Vo has been marrying people who have the same last names as people who have been influential in his life. He then attaches their last names to his and immediately divorces them. In 2006, he "transferred" his identity to the German artist Tobias Rehberger, who recreated the boat Vo's father made to flee Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War and exhibited it as his own project.
