Mindy Shapero's work springs from a rich world of fantasy and mythology, but it also has a significant grounding in literature. Using simple materials, such as paper, wood, and acrylic paint, she creates drawings and sculptures that give concrete form to nonphysical dream visions and psychedelic experiences. The titles of her works are descriptive and informative, often paragraphs long, sometimes even taking the form of self-published black-and-white zines.
Shapero is based in Los Angeles and received an MFA from the University of Southern California in 2003. She has exhibited at the California Biennial at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, California; the Tate Modern in London; and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
