Simon Leung's collaborative, project-based work engages postcolonial and gender theory, frequently dealing with the public and political dimensions of private sexual acts. His recent projects have included reenvisioning Marcel Duchamp's oeuvre as a discourse in ethics; rethinking the psychological, philosophical, and political dimensions of AIDS in the figure of the glory hole; and meditations on "the residual space of the Vietnam War" via projects on the squatting body as counter-architecture, military desertion as ascesis, and surfing. He is a faculty member in studio art and Asian American studies at the University of California at Irvine. He has exhibited at the Venice Biennale; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and the International Surfing Museum, Huntington Beach, California.
