Blake Rayne believes that painting is more than just physical. His particular "procedures," as he calls them, include translation, folding, decontextualization, superimposition, and the following of scripts grafted from other sites of cultural production. His exhibitions frequently take the form of mixed-media installations, combining large works on canvas, with text or without; film projections; inkjet prints; and pieces of shipping containers and other furniture. Rayne is a professor of painting at Columbia University and is based in Brooklyn. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Miguel Abreu Gallery, New York; Galerie Hussenot, Paris; Sutton Lane, London; and Kevin Bruk Gallery, Miami.
