Through depictions of cleaning products, laborers' garments, and various other industrial and domestic forms, Io Palmer's artworks explore complex issues of class, race, and identity, in particular the impact of society on the individual. Trained originally as a ceramicist, Palmer uses a variety of processes and materials, from metal to linen.

Palmer has been featured in several national and international exhibitions, including Working History at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and Hair Follies at Concordia University in Montreal. She has participated in artist residencies at the Santa Fe Art Institute, Art Channel in Beijing, and the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. She holds a BFA from the Tyler School of Art and an MFA from the University of Arizona. She currently resides in the Pacific Northwest.

The Design and Craft Lecture Series is funded by the Wornick Endowment Fund. Additional support for CCA public programs in San Francisco has been provided by Grants for the Arts / San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund.
