"Craft in the Power Position"

Janet Koplos is a New York–based art critic and lecturer. She has served as a guest editor of American Craft magazine, and for 18 years she was a senior editor at Art in America magazine, where she is now a contributing editor. At CCA she will discuss the contentious position of craft today.

In addition to her extensive writing for national and international publications, Koplos has authored or coauthored nine books, including the forthcoming Makers: A History of American Studio Craft and Venice: Three Visions in Glass. Her broad expertise encompasses architecture, design, American craft and folk art, contemporary Japanese art, Japanese folk art, and contemporary Dutch art.

The Design and Craft Lecture Series is funded by the Wornick Endowment Fund. Additional support for CCA public programs in San Francisco has been provided by Grants for the Arts / San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund.
