Jennifer Broutin and Carmen Trudell are partners in the experimental design firm Fluxxlab, based in New York. The firm invents novel ways to engage people and energy, focusing specifically on converting small amounts of human energy into electricity—what the principals call "sustainable energy harvesting."

Broutin and Trudell's backgrounds incorporate architecture, design, sustainability, exhibition design, multimedia, and technology. Both graduated from Columbia University's Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design program. Broutin has worked with such diverse groups as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Eyebeam Art & Technology Center, and Volume magazine. Trudell teaches at Columbia University and at New York City College of Technology, and she has been a resident artist at Eyebeam Art and Technology Center in New York.

The Design and Craft Lecture Series is funded by the Wornick Endowment Fund. Additional support for CCA public programs in San Francisco has been provided by Grants for the Arts / San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund.
