Denise Newman is the author of three poetry collections. The most recent one is The New Make Believe published in 2010 by the Post-Apollo Press. She is the translator of two novels by the Danish poet Inger Christensen, and the most recent one, Azorno, was published by New Directions in 2009. She has been involved in numerous collaborations, including several choral works with the composer Kui Dong.

Humble Pie is CCA's undergraduate literary arts journal. We publish poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art by undergraduate students in the Bay Area. The reading will feature some of the writers included in our fifth edition. We will also serve fresh, sweet, and nutritious real-life pies a la mode, with crispy crusts!

The best-selling author David Sedaris gives a special reading to benefit CCA student scholarships. Revenue generated from ticket sales, lead gifts, and sponsorships will go directly to students in need. CCA scholarships provide critical assistance to promising young designers, architects, and artists. The evening will feature a reading of new and unpublished work.
