The Student Annual: 2008–2009, published September 13, 2009, marks the premiere issue of the annual publication that showcases student experiences and projects thus far completed within the first year of CCA’s inaugural MBA in Design Strategy program. The student-published annual also features a class profile, faculty interviews, and recorded discussions among students.

Compiled by Nicole Chen, Erica Meade, and Kate Ranson-Walsh—three of the pioneer MBA in Design Strategy program’s 26 students—the 64-page student annual (see the slideshow preview at right) includes in its introduction a description of the students’ vision to reflect “real, tangible examples of the application of design strategy and our interpretation of design and business working together.”

Additionally, the book reflects major themes students within the groundbreaking MBA in Design Strategy program are learning: “It demonstrates what we hope to bring to the business world: fresh perspectives, open dialog, healthy curiosity and criticism, system thinking, visual communication, sensitivity to social responsibility, and empathetic leadership.”

The student annual is available at MagCloud as either an online-only or traditional print publication for $15 (plus shipping and handling for printed copies). MagCloud is a print-on-demand service that one of the sustainability groups researched last year and determined to be more eco-friendly than traditional publishing models (which can create more paper waste).

The same three students also put together 26 Thoughts, another publication that is a compilation of their blogging originally posted at Triple Pundit, “one of the world’s most well-read websites on the subject of responsible business.” A packaged and printed anthology, 26 Thoughts, also is available at MagCloud for $10 (plus shipping and handling).

MBA in Design Strategy program chair Nathan Shedroff commented on the recent books on the satellite MBA in Design Strategy website he manages: “Hopefully, these publications will serve as nice artifacts of what was accomplished by the first cohort last year. And maybe there will be a second issue next year for all that we will accomplish in 2009–10!”
