Printmaking Alumna Inaugural Recipient of Hamaguchi Emerging Artist Residency at Kala
Posted on Friday, July 2, 2010, by Jim Norrena
A recent community partnership between California College of the Arts and Kala Art Institute in Berkeley has given rise to the new CCA Hamaguchi Emerging Artist Residency at Kala. It represents a rich collaboration between the two institutions that creates a special opportunity for a recent BFA Printmaking graduate to work in a professional setting with other artists from all over the world.
CCA is proud to announce Chelsea Ryoko Wong (BFA Printmaking 2010) as the recipient of the 2010 Emerging Artist Residency. Prior to CCA Wong studied communication design and illustration at Parsons school of Design in New York. Her work has been shown in national and international galleries (England, Japan, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco).
The residency, funded in part by the Hamaguchi Endowment for the advancement of printmaking at CCA, offers recipients part-time access to Kala for three months to work in the print facilities on their own work to develop a portfolio for graduate school applications, exhibitions, experiment with new technologies, or some other intent.
