MFA Writer's Short Film Captures the Fine Art of BikeWriting

As writers, we all turn to various sources of inspiration to lend our work; it's an inevitable part of the journey. Sometimes we seek interaction—engaging with others at readings and exhibitions. Other times we delve into our imaginations, relishing in our own personal sanctuaries.

MFA Program in Writing's Alka Joshi understands this process well. In fact, she documented it—not in her writing, per se, as one would expect, but rather in BikeWriter, a short video she recently submitted as part of CCA's R.A.W. Video contest, in which she features fellow MFA Program in Writing's Luisa Leija, who rides her bike in the Bay Area to foster her creative voice.

And speaking of voices, Luisa shares hers in the video, lending the film an authentic and personal quality, much like Luisa's writing itself. (I know—I hear her every week!)

The contest asked filmmakers to capture CCA's bike culture (as they see it), and Alka's film is a respectful tribute to another writer's ability to seek inspiration from within herself.

CCA: Interdisciplinary Opportunity

Despite many of the submissions representing CCA's Film Program, it's important to note other non-Film submissions included not only MFA Program in Writing but also Animation, Graduate Program in Fine Arts, and Photography.

BikeWriter offers a celebration of a writer's journey (literally) and is an effective example of how collaborative interdisciplinary endeavors—be it filmmaking and writing or architecture and interior design or fine arts and visual and critical studies—make CCA an inspirational place to share our work with our audiences as well as with each other.
