Gump's Celebrates 150th Anniversary: Mirror Mirror Gala to Benefit CCA
Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, by Chris Bliss
Renowned San Francisco retailer Gump’s will celebrate its 150th anniversary by opening its doors March 31 for Mirror Mirror, a gala celebration to benefit California College of the Arts (CCA). The festive event features a dinner party and an auction of one-of-a-kind mirrors created by 30 leading artists, architects, and designers, including designer Yves Béhar, architect Mark Jensen, artist Raymond Saunders, and interior designer Kelly Wearstler (see complete list below).
The mirror theme harkens back to Gump’s founding in 1861 as a mirror and frame shop. The public will have an opportunity to see these custom-designed mirrors, which will be on display in the store prior to the gala from March 24 to 30. (For store location and hours, visit the Gump’s website.)
About the Mirror Mirror Gala
Mirror Mirror will take place on both floors of Gump’s flagship Post Street store, where more than 300 of the Bay Area’s most generous philanthropists and art lovers are expected to attend. The evening begins with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by the live auction at 7:30 p.m., and dinner at 8 p.m.
The event is chaired by CCA trustee Ann Hatch and AIGA Gold Medal recipient and CCA faculty member Jennifer Morla. Dinner chairs are CCA trustee Kay Kimpton Walker and Allison Speer.
For tickets and more information, visit the Mirror Mirror website.
About Gump's
Gump’s is devoted to exquisite craftsmanship and international designers and artisans. In 1861 the Gump Brothers, Solomon and Gustav, established their mirror and frame shop. Newly minted millionaires from the California Gold Rush showed an interest in the shop and the brothers expanded their collection of old-world art and new-world design. S & G Gump was born—and the tradition of excellence continues today. Gump’s is synonymous with San Francisco in its elegance, worldly style, and maverick spirit.
