Writing Travel Stories @ CCA
EXWRT–1501–01
Instructor: Marianne Rogoff
Sat., 10 a.m.–2 p.m., June 9, July 14, August 4
3 sessions. $140. Noncredit. Prerequisite: none
Unpack your travels. More than where to stay and what to eat, travel stories describe meaningful encounters between self and place, with a turning point that revolves around the change the narrator undergoes as a result of being there. Personal memory bumps against the collective memory of locals and requires adjustment; sense of self and identity shifts in response to being in foreign, often challenging territory.
Attend these monthly writers studio-workshops at CCA’s beautiful Rockridge campus to draft new stories from prompts and read them to the group for feedback when desired. Revise between sessions and bring back to workshop, or produce a new piece each time we get together. Commit to an ongoing writing practice, try on new perspectives, and refine your story structures.
To continue your writing practice, these workshops will be offered throughout the year. You can sign up in the fall for three more Saturday meetings: September 8, October 13, and November 10.
