Source4Style Tags CCA's Fashion Design Program Among "Top 10 Sustainable Design Universities"
Posted on Thursday, January 19, 2012, by Jim Norrena

Source4Style, an online marketplace for trendsetting designers who seek cutting-edge materials for their design needs, called out CCA's Fashion Design Program as an innovative leader in the sustainability movement, ranking the college's design program fourth in its "Top 10 Sustainable Design Universities" December post!
According to the site: "CCA was one of the progenitors of a sustainable fashion curriculum, thanks to the likes of Lynda Grose, member of the design faculty and a major force for sustainable design. In addition, the school has engaged in a myriad of creative projects including the Materials Resource Center. The school is also listed on Princeton Review’s Top 311 Green Schools."
Fashion Design Chair Amy Williams Weighs In
Fashion Design chair Amy Williams about the program: "We not only push the envelope, but question it too. Questioning the envelope is the core to design practice development in CCA's Fashion Design Program. The known industry standard boundaries tend to keep designers creating according to profit/loss balance sheets, rather than allowing for new process development that is refocused on environmental and fiscal responsibility.
"Our students are asked to question the industry standard with regards to garment production by thinking conceptually and sustainably when they design their collections. It is quite exciting to see them consider traditional practices and then to create newer, better processes for building their dreams."
Placing fourth among the 10 listed programs, CCA's Fashion Design Program was designated a "Trailblazer" for its efforts in promoting and implementing sustainability in its curriculum. "Trailblazer, yes!" said Williams. "We keep moving forward, proudly and powerfully!" Other titles included "Future Force," "Risk-Taker," "Hipster," and "New Kid on the Block."
