Summer Writing Skills Workshop for Incoming CCA International Students

Summer 2013 Program Dates: July 15– Aug. 23
CCA is pleased to offer a six-week Summer Writing Skills Workshop for incoming CCA international students in which students can take care of their Writing Skills Workshop requirement before courses begin in the fall!

Note: Look for updated information about the Summer 2013 Writing Skills Workshop for International Students beginning December 7, 2012.

Workshop students move into housing one month early, become familiar with the Bay Area before the start of fall classes, and work on their English language skills.

Many new students register to take WSW-ESL in the fall semester. The summer offering of this course allows students to get a head start in their first year course work. Students get comfortable on campus, make friends, and work closely with native English-speaking tutors before the busy fall semester begins.

This language course is intended for students for whom English is a second language. It is designed to get students ready to speak, read, and write about art and design work. Course activities develop academic vocabulary, comfort with in-class participation, descriptive academic writing, and familiarity with U.S. standards for source citation.

Discussions are based on excursions to Bay Area destinations, museum visits, and short articles on art, design, and intercultural issues. Verbal skills and accent reduction are addressed through oral presentations, critiques, and debates.

Students receive individualized instruction and writing help from graduate student academic coaches each evening. There are also fun, interactive discussion sessions and group activities each night as well as weekend field trips.

Students may receive 3 units of Humanities and Sciences elective credit upon successful completion, including passing the English Placement Examination in the course.
