CCA alum (BFA Graphic Design,2010) Niko Skourtis has been awarded the 2012 Catalyst Award by the Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) for his thesis project, Typograph. This interactive database catalogs the past 30 years of typography by presenting data from the Type Directors Club annuals through various interactive platforms, including an interactive chart displaying data for each typeface, a dynamic image-based timeline, and visual representations, providing a dynamic and interactive look on the past 30 years of typography.
SOTA’s Catalyst Award was created in 2010 to recognize a person 30 years of age or younger who demonstrates significant achievement and future promise in the field of typography. Skourtis will present his work and receive the award at TypeCon2012, which takes place this summer in Milwaukee.
According to the TypeCon blog, the judging committee was “unanimously impressed with Niko’s work.” A judge commented: “That this individual is an accomplished designer and programmer just makes me want to see where his talents will lead him in the future.”
Congratulations, Niko!
