CCA alumnus Banker White (MFA 2000) is a documentary filmmaker. You may know him as the director of Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, about a group of Sierra Leonean musicians who gained international renown and landed a record deal.

Celebrated German photographer Thomas Demand delivered a lecture at CCA's San Francisco campus November 12, followed by a student-faculty Q&A session.
Demand, born in Munich in 1964, is known for making photographs of 3D models that look like actual depictions of spaces. His photographs often are associated with contemporary political situations.
Demand represented Germany at the Bienal de São Paulo in 2004 and his work was the subject of a midcareer retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 2005. He currently lives and works in Berlin.

Earlier this fall media artist and CCA Graduate Program in Fine Arts and Film Program professor Jeanne Finley took her "Land Minds / Sight Lines" graduate seminar students to Reno, "The Biggest Little City in the World," and the surrounding Black Rock Desert for a weekend-long, site-specific, art-making excursion.

The Center for Art and Public Life is hosting Idea Sessions for CCA students to discuss project ideas and connect with other students interested in being part of an IMPACT Social Entrepreneurship Award team. Please come ready to discuss social and humanitarian issues you are most passionate about and how you might collaborate through an interdisciplinary team. Meet other students with similar interests and form an IMPACT team. In addition, Center staff will be available to answer any questions about the IMPACT program and the application process.

Students in CCA's Fashion Design Program paired up with UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business students to compete in a Levi Strauss & Co. case competition on sustainability. The challenge was to find a profitable business solution to address denim waste/reuse. For two weeks experts from Levi Strauss & Co. worked with the students on a variety of issues, including finance, design, strategy, sustainability, and garment life cycle.

The deadline for the StudentAffairs.com 2010 College Cartoonist Contest, a competition for college and graduate student cartoonists, is December 10, 2010. Winning entries will be featured on the StudentAffairs.com website. Students need to submit two cartoons on the theme of "Campus Life and Technology".
1st Place: $300.00
2nd Place: $200.00
3rd Place: $100.00
A $20.00 fee will be paid for all accepted comic strips that do not win one of the top three prizes in the 2010 College Cartoonist Contest.
