The Graduate Program in Design at California College of the Arts will hold its year-end thesis events May 4–6, 2010, on its San Francisco campus, located at 1111 Eighth Street (at 16th and Wisconsin).
A reception party to celebrate the program’s newest graduates is planned for May 5 at 5:30 p.m., which will feature food, drink, and a guest DJ. (Visit the graduate thesis events website for a schedule of each day’s events. All events are free and open to the public.)

Because some students have been confused by what goes where (and why) involved in this new color-coded system, not everyone has been willing to participate—or even if they have been willing to participate, they’re not always successful in reaching the correct bin.

The fifth annual CCA summer study-abroad course in Oaxaca, Mexico—known as "Oaxifornia"—was again a success, bringing CCA students together with local artists in a truly interdisciplinary setting. In a countryside town about 12 miles outside Oaxaca City, 13 CCA students lived and worked for three weeks this past July in the Ex-Hacienda de Guadalupe.

Matthew Baranauskas and Molly Ackerman-Brimberg, two recent graduates from CCA’s Graduate Program in Design, made helping the disabled in the East Bay city of Richmond into a thesis project. They spent more than a year working with the National Institute of Art and Disabilities (NIAD) and creating an exhibition, CCA Design for Disability: Alternative Ways of Making, which is on view through August 23.

The American Institute of Graphic Arts San Francisco (AIGA SF), a chapter of AIGA, the oldest and largest professional organization for design, awarded Doug Akagi, Leslie Becker, and Michael Cronan—all past or present faculty at California College of the Arts—as its 2009 Fellows in recognition of their exemplary achievements and contributions to the design community. AIGA SF honored all three award recipients on June 15, 2009, at a reception that also acknowledged the golden anniversary of Communication Arts magazine, which was founded in 1959.
