CCA Wattis Director Jens Hoffmann Appointed Curator of 12th International Istanbul Biennial

CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts Director Jens Hoffmann and the independent Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa have been named cocurators of the 12th International Istanbul Biennial to be held September 17–November 13, 2011. Hoffmann and Pedrosa are expected to announce a conceptual framework for the biennial in fall 2010.

CCA Wattis Institute Presents: Huckleberry Finn

The CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts will present the exhibition Huckleberry Finn from September 28 through December 11, 2010, in the Logan Galleries on the San Francisco campus of California College of the Arts. The exhibition is free and open to the public, with an opening reception on Tuesday, September 28, from 6–8 p.m.

The Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) San Francisco Global School: Biodynamic Structures is a 10-day intensive Global Visiting School workshop, hosted by California College of the Arts (CCA) from July 12–21, 2010, on CCA’s San Francisco campus.

Students in the course will explore active systems in nature, extracting logics of organization, geometry, structure, and mathematics. They will investigate biomimetic principles, then analyze, design, and fabricate prototypes that respond to electronic and environmental stimuli.

Graduate Program in Design 2010 Thesis Events

The Graduate Program in Design at California College of the Arts will hold its year-end thesis events May 4–6, 2010, on its San Francisco campus, located at 1111 Eighth Street (at 16th and Wisconsin).

A reception party to celebrate the program’s newest graduates is planned for May 5 at 5:30 p.m., which will feature food, drink, and a guest DJ. (Visit the graduate thesis events website for a schedule of each day’s events. All events are free and open to the public.)

We have as much time as it takes is the thesis exhibition of CCA's Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice, being presented in the galleries of the CCA Wattis Institute for the first time in the program's seven-year history.

Make Yourself at Home in Thom Faulders's Cozy BAMscape

BAMscape, an installation created by CCA Architecture associate professor Thom Faulders for the central atrium of the Berkeley Art Museum, is an 1,550-square-foot sculpture/furniture/stage that invites direct physical interaction, with undulating curves for people to relax against and multiple electric outlets for plugging in laptops. Museum visitors, students, art lovers, and performance attendees are all invited to make themselves at ease here; even sitting with your coffee is OK, as it has been designed to withstand spills.
