Tatiana Pavlova observes that Chinatown is an important tourist destination, but that the tourists see only the aspects that are attractive, bright, festive, and fun. In the real, less-glamorous Chinatown, local residents socialize and do their shopping. Inspired by the works of Arnold Genthe (who photographed Chinatown before it was demolished in the 1906 earthquake and fire) she created her own chronicles of everyday Chinatown: not postcard-perfect, but still beautiful and interesting.
