Career Development

Career Development has undergone a metamorphosis and we are excited to be planning for a new slate of events throughout this year and next geared to support you in your career process.

Look for employer information tables each Tuesday, collaborations with local art and design organizations and employers, employer information sessions and portfolio reviews, on campus interviews, Career Expo (March 1, 2013), Career Treks (visits to employer sites), and workshops on a wide range of career-related topics.

You may also notice a few changes to our website. This is only the beginning, so stay tuned for more exciting updates, upgrades, and additions!

"The only constant is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today. No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be."

-- Isaac Asimov

The college's Career Development team aims to empower CCA students and alumni with the tools and skills needed to launch their creative career aspirations. We are your partner in co-creating your career success.

The Career Development team offers peer career coaching appointments for résumés, cover letters, internship research, and job-search techniques. We also provide drop-in peer coaching times Thursday and Friday from 3:00-4:00PM and career information tables each Tuesday morning for both the Oakland and San Francisco campuses. Drop-in coaching is held in the LRC on the Oakland Campus and 80 Carolina St., 2nd Floor in SF. Information tables are in The Nave and outside of the Irwin Center. Please go to ScheduleOnce to schedule an appointment with a Peer Coach through the month of April.

Please visit our Student Resources and Events pages for details. You can email careers@cca.edu to schedule a personal coaching appointment.

What is Career Coaching?

Career coaching helps you focus on next steps. Through career development strategies, your coach will help you to articulate your aspirations, develop a plan, and take action to effectively meet your objectives.

Through access to professional job-search assistance, CCA students and recent alumni gain the necessary practical skills and confidence to thrive as professional artists, writers, and designers.

Our staff provides career coaching and tailored workshops on topics ranging from job-search strategies, networking skills, becoming a successful entrepreneur, preparing a winning résumé or curriculum vitae to interviewing practice and building solid artist business skills for your future.

We also offer various career assessment tools for students and alumni free of charge. Contact us directly if you are interested in working with us on taking the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Strong Interest Inventory, SkillScan, and/or a career values assessment. These tools are designed to support your career decision making process in collaboration with a trained career coach. An assessment does not tell you what career path to follow but instead helps illuminate the options that may support your career aspirations.

CCA students often pursue their education at prestigious institutions. Our team is ready and able to guide you through the graduate program application process.

We can provide assistance and feedback for your decision process, application letters, and financial considerations.
