Internships give academic credit for your major. You must be eligible, have all paperwork approved, and fullfill all the requirements required by your major. An internship must also be within your area of study and should link theory with practice.
The Career Services job board lists internships that have the potential to give elective credit. The internship must contain a certain number of hours spent learning new tasks or concepts.
To access the job board, you must get an Access ID from the Student Affairs office on either campus.
Your internship sponsor must agree to complete a learning contract as well as evaluate your performance with a reccomendation for a grade at the end of the semester. This grade is taken into account along with other components, such as attending a seminar, keeping a journal, and possibly writing a paper.
Hours for credit will vary with department approval. Most internships are paid and must be approved by the faculty internship advisor in order for a student to receive credit. You must have the internship approved before you begin, otherwise you may not get credit.
The Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, and Interior Design programs require their students to complete an internship as part of their program requirements. Please refer to your department internship advisor to assess whether you are ready for an internship.
Internships for elective credit are also offered by many of our fine arts departments. Speak to your department chair if you are interested.
