Volunteering enables you to connect, explore, and contribute to the community in a meaningful way. The San Francisco Bay Area is rich in opportunities that will enable you to build skills while exploring various career possibilities.
A list of volunteer opportunities can be found in the Student Affairs offices on both campuses as well as on our job board.
Here are some questions to ask yourself during your volunteer search:
- What fields, social issues, and communities am I most interested in? Hunger awareness, poverty, racism, the environment, healthcare, youth, disabled, elderly, gays and lesbians, transgendered people, AIDS or cancer patients, artists?
- Do I wish to do direct work (tutoring children, teaching children to paint, activities for senior citizens), indirect work (painting a day care center, newsletter layout, office assistance), or work on behalf of an agency (holding a fundraiser, participating in a letter writing campaign)?
- What am I looking for in this experience?
- Whom do I want to work with? Children, senior citizens, citizens with disabilities?
- What time commitment do I want to make? Do I want a one-time event or a weekly commitment? Do I want to work independently or as part of a group?
