The Federal Work-Study Program gives students the opportunity to work part-time employment to help defray educational costs. Federal Work-Study funds are awarded on the basis of need to eligible students applying for financial aid.
An offer of work-study, either federal or institutional, is not a guarantee of employment or a cash award. A Federal Work-Study (FWS) award is a way of providing financial aid recipients priority status in securing a part-time job on campus. A student's financial aid award limits the amount that may be earned through FWS employment.
In addition, CCA has limited funding for student employment and therefore has to limit each student's employment allocation in order to maximize the number of students who work on campus.
Since FWS is a need-based student aid program, earnings are excluded from income when the recipient applies for financial aid for the following year.
Student employment awards cannot be included when students complete their Student Accounts Billing Worksheet because these guarantee neither employment nor earnings.
On-campus student job listings are posted on our job board. (To access the job board, students must enter an Access ID. The Access ID is "cca" followed by the last 6 digits of your student ID, for example: cca123456.) Open positions are viewable by all students who register on the online job board.
Students interested in specific positions should complete an application form for each position and submit the forms directly to the appropriate department or office. Our online job board also allows students to submit a resume via email. (Some positions may not required a resume; review job descriptions for more information.) The position's supervisor will schedule interviews with applicants.
Students who are offered positions must submit a completed Student Personnel Form, Confidentiality Form, Paycheck Location Form, and a Designated Person Form (optional), along with a W-4 and I-9 form (if they have never worked at CCA), to their supervisor. Student employment forms are accessible by clicking on hiring forms and hiring forms can be downloaded as PDFs. The hiring supervisor also should have these forms available.
Once hired, students are expected to meet the attendance and performance standards specified by their supervisor. Noncompliance can result in dismissal from the position and could jeopardize future student employment at CCA.
Many supervisors will evaluate a student's performance mid-semester or at the end of the semester. Some positions may require that students participate in an employment orientation meeting at the beginning of the semester, prior to starting actual employment.
Paychecks are available on the 15th and last day of each month. Pay periods run from the 1st to the 15th and the 16th to the last day of the month. Approved timesheets should be submitted to the payroll office within three business days after the pay period ending date. Payment for hours worked will be available on the next payday.
Students who have questions about the time sheet procedure should speak with their supervisor and then, if necessary, the Payroll Office.
See Work-Study Downloads for downloadable forms and guidelines.
Students who are unsuccessful in locating a position on campus may need to find other financial resources to cover a portion of their living expenses. Those who are committed to working in order to help finance their education are encouraged to pursue off-campus, as well as on-campus, employment opportunities.
The Center for Art and Public Life oversees a limited number of off-campus employment opportunities under the Federal Work-Study program's community service requirement.
Career Services may be able to assist in finding off-campus work.
