Campus Guidelines
Alcohol Policy
CCA believes that alcoholic beverages are not part of the teaching and learning process and that it is inappropriate to serve or consume alcoholic beverages as part of an official class or studio activity.
CCA organizations will observe all State of California restrictions on the possession, sales, service, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. No alcoholic beverages may be served to anyone who cannot verify that he or she is at least 21 years old or to anyone whose judgment or physical performance has already been affected by alcohol consumption.
Alcoholic beverages may be served at college events, including graduate exhibition openings, in accordance with the following conditions:
- A Request to Serve Alcohol form (wine and beer only) must be submitted and approved by the director of Student Life at least two weeks before the event, and a signed copy of the form must be available at the event.
- Alcohol may not be served or consumed by anyone under age 21 at the event, and a sign regarding drinking age requirements must be posted and a person designated to monitor compliance with these regulations.
- Nonalcoholic refreshments and a substantial amount of food must also be made available.
Alcoholic beverages may not be sold on campus nor may admission be charged for events where alcohol is to be served unless appropriate license is obtained according to regulations published by the State Alcoholic Beverages Control Department.
Individuals may not bring alcoholic beverages onto the campus for their private consumption.
Students are not permitted to provide or consume alcohol at undergraduate exhibition openings regardless of their age. All undergraduate openings will be monitored, and students found drinking at these events will be subject to disciplinary action.
Students may not have full or empty containers of alcohol in their studios. Any containers that are found will be confiscated, and the student may face disciplinary action. In the case of containers found in individual studio spaces, the student responsible for the space may face disciplinary action including the loss of the studio for the remainder of the semester. Other sanctions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Bicycles
Racks for parking and locking bicycles are located in several convenient locations around the Oakland campus and in designated spaces on the San Francisco campus. Bicycles may not be parked inside buildings on the Oakland campus because they could present a hazard in an emergency. Bicycles locked to handicapped access ramps or stairways on either campus may be damaged and will be removed. Such conduct by non-CCA-affiliated persons is a form of trespassing and by CCA-affiliated persons is subject to disciplinary action.
Campus Appearance
The entire college community takes an active interest in conserving the appearance of each campus. While facilities crews clean and repair campus facilities, all members of the community share responsibility for the order and safety of the campuses. All students, faculty, and staff members are expected to help keep each campus functioning well by picking up after themselves and reporting damage—particularly all dangerous occurrences—to facilities management.
Locker Rentals
Lockers may be rented from the Student Affairs Office on each campus for temporary storage of belongings. All lockers, regardless of size and location, cost $5 to rent for the duration of a semester. At the Oakland campus, all lockers are the same size; San Francisco campus lockers are available in three sizes. All rentals include a lock.
Once a student is assigned a locker it cannot be changed for a different locker until the end of the rental period. Initially, only one locker per student is allowed; however, if available lockers still exist after the second week of classes, secondary rentals are allowed. (Note: Renting more than two lockers is not permitted.)
Also, a limited number of lockers is available inside some studios, which is under the supervision of the studio manager.
CCA offers campus lockers solely to lessen the burden of transporting materials between campus and home. They are not intended to secure valuable or irreplaceable items, and the college strongly discourages storage of such items on campus. The college is not responsible for the repair or replacement of locker contents, and will not reimburse individuals for property lost on campus.
Following the rental term termination date of each semester, all unclaimed items in lockers are discarded—typically by 4 p.m. on the Monday immediately following the last day of class.
Lost & Found
All items that are found on campus should be directed to the Public Safety Office on either campus. With proper identification, the owner may reclaim them. Items are kept until the end of the term during which they were found.
Pets
With the exception of service animals, dogs and other animals are not permitted on either campus at any time. Bringing a non-service animal onto campus by non-CCA-affiliated persons is a form of trespassing and by CCA-affiliated persons is subject to disciplinary action.
Recycling Program
In an effort to raise awareness of issues surrounding the creation and disposal of commercial products and containers, the students at CCA have initiated a cooperative recycling program. Bins are located on both campuses for the recycling of cans, bottles, and paper. All members of the college community are encouraged to join in this effort.
Skateboards & Rollerblades
Skateboarding and rollerblading are not permitted on the grounds of the Oakland campus or in or around the San Francisco campus. Such conduct by non-CCA-affiliated persons is a form of trespassing and by CCA-affiliated persons is subject to disciplinary action.
Smoking
Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the San Francisco campus, including the entry courtyard, or in or near any buildings on the Oakland campus.
While smoking is lawful on city sidewalks, be courteous to those who are coming to and leaving from either campus by smoking away from the main entrance.
