Individuals with Disabilities

When necessary, the college will reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities if the individuals are otherwise qualified to meet the fundamental requirements and aspects of the program and safely perform all essential functions without undue hardship to the college and without altering fundamental aspects of its educational program.

A qualified disabled student or applicant who requires an accommodation and is otherwise unaware of the appropriate process for securing accommodation should contact the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities or the Coordinator of Learning Resources and request such accommodation in writing and in a timely fashion, that is, well before the accommodation is needed. The college will then work with the student or applicant to identify any existing barriers and will also identify the possible accommodation, if any, that would eliminate those barriers. If the accommodation is reasonable, effective, and will not alter a fundamental aspect of the educational program or otherwise impose an undue hardship, and if there are not equivalent alternatives, the college will offer to make an accommodation.

For purposes of reasonable accommodation, a disabled student or applicant is a person who has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities (such as walking, seeing, speaking, learning, or working); has a record with the college of such an impairment; or is regarded by the college as having such an impairment, or who is otherwise defined by law as a qualified disabled student or applicant. The individual must meet the qualifications and requirements expected generally of students and must be able to perform the essential requirements of the curriculum either with or without reasonable accommodation.

More information about CCA's policies for students with disabilities can be obtained from the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities or the Coordinator of Learning Resources.
