Housing FAQ

When do I need to make my housing payment?
You will need to submit a $750 deposit once you are offered housing. The remainder of your housing fees will be charged to your account in late August. Payment arrangements should be made through the CCA Business Office. Most students include this amount with their tuition payments, but you can also choose to make one large housing payment. For more information, please call the Business Office at 510.594.3646.

What is the neighborhood like?
The Oakland campus is located in Rockridge, a charming residential neighborhood. Nearby College Avenue is filled with a wide range of restaurants, bookstores, cafés, and other retail stores. The Rockridge Shopping Center is adjacent to the college and offers a supermarket, a drugstore, restaurants, and other amenities. Residents of Webster Hall enjoy the vibrant cultural life of downtown Oakland. The Oakland Museum and the Paramount Theatre are close by, as are galleries, restaurants, and retail stores.

What about meals?
CCA does not offer a meal plan. Most students find it more convenient to prepare their own meals at the times that best suit their needs. Each residence has a kitchen; students need to supply their own pots, pans, utensils, dishware, etc. There is a Safeway supermarket within a very short walk of Clifton Hall and the Avenue Apartments. There are produce stands near Webster Hall. The campus area also offers a wide variety of restaurants. For a convenient place to get food between classes, Rocky's Café is located on the Oakland campus and A2 Café is located on the San Francisco campus.

What is furnished in my room?
Clifton and Webster Hall rooms are equipped with extra-long twin beds, dresser, chair, and desk. Rooms in the Avenue Apartments are equipped with extra-long twin beds, dresser, and chairs. Students in the Avenue Apartments have full kitchens and living room areas. Clifton Hall and Webster Hall residents share common kitchens; small refrigerators are provided in their rooms. Clifton Hall residents are also provided with microwave ovens in their rooms; because microwaves are not allowed in Webster Hall student rooms, several are available in the kitchens. CCA does not provide linens or kitchen supplies (such as pots, pans, and dishes).

Are there washing machines in the buildings?
Yes. All three buildings have washers and dryers. The current cost for use is seventy-five cents per wash load and fifty cents per half-hour of drying time.

Where is the closest transportation?
Clifton Hall and the Avenue Apartments are located seven blocks from the Rockridge BART station. Several AC Transit buses stop on the corner of College and Broadway, including the no. 51, which runs from downtown Oakland to downtown Berkeley. Webster Hall is located two blocks from the 12th Street BART station and bus stops (the no. 51 bus also stops there). The CCA shuttle runs Monday through Friday, several times a day, from Webster Hall to the Oakland campus, on to the San Francisco campus, and back again.

I have a computer. How can I access the Internet from my room?
All rooms and apartments are equipped with ethernet access to the internet. Wireless access is also available in the lounges in Clifton and Webster Halls. Connection information will be available when you check in.

Which banks are in the area?
Three banks are located a block away from CCA's Oakland campus: Bank of America, Washington Mutual, and Wells Fargo Bank. Near Webster Hall you will find Bank of America, Bank of the West, and Wells Fargo Bank.
