The following are questions new CCA students frequently ask. If your question is not addressed here, please contact Residential Life at 510.420.2000 or housing@cca.edu.
- When is my housing payment due?
- What is the neighborhood like?
- Are meal plans available?
- Are the rooms furnished?
- What about laundry facilities?
- Where do I access public transportation?
- Is my room Internet compatible?
- Where are the nearest banking facilities?
When is my housing payment due?
Upon receiving an offer for housing, a $750 deposit is due. The remainder of your housing fees will be charged to your account in late August. Payment arrangements should be made through the Business Office. Most students include this amount with their tuition payment, but you may opt to submit a single, larger housing payment. For more information contact the Business Office at 510.594.3646.
What is the neighborhood like?
The Oakland campus is located in the Rockridge District, a charming residential neighborhood. Nearby College Avenue is populated with a diverse range of restaurants, bookstores, cafés, and retail stores.
The Rockridge shopping center is adjacent to the college and offers a supermarket, a drugstore, restaurants, and other resources. Webster Hall residents enjoy the vibrant cultural life of downtown Oakland. The Oakland Museum of California and the Paramount Theatre are close by, as are galleries, restaurants, and many chain and independent retail stores. Oakland is a diverse and dynamic urban setting with exciting opportunities for involvement, easily accessible public transportation, and a thriving and unique art scene.
Are meal plans available?
CCA does not offer a meal plan. Given the demands of academic life and the time spent in the studios, most students find it more convenient to prepare their own meals at the times that best suit their needs. Each residential community provides a kitchen; however, students need to supply their own pots, pans, utensils, dishware, etc.
A Safeway supermarket is within a short walk of Clifton and Irwin halls and the Avenue Apartments. Produce stands and smaller markets are near Webster Hall. The area around each residential community affords a wide variety of restaurants. For a convenient place to eat between classes, A2 Café on either campus offers affordable and convenient meals.
Are the rooms furnished?
Clifton, Irwin, and Webster halls offer rooms that are equipped with extra-long twin beds, dresser, chair, and desk. Rooms in the Avenue Apartments are equipped with extra-long twin beds, dresser, and chairs. Students in the Avenue Apartments have full kitchens and living room areas.
Residents in the Clifton, Irwin, and Webster halls share common kitchens (rooms are equipped with small refrigerators). Clifton and Irwin hall residents have small microwaves in their rooms. (Because microwaves are not allowed in Webster Hall student rooms, several are provided in the community kitchens.) CCA does not provide linens or kitchen supplies (e.g., pots, pans, and dishes).
What about laundry facilities?
Yes—washing machines and dryers are available for students in the First-Year Community and Continuing-Student Community alike. The current cost: $ 0.75 per wash; $ 0.50 per half-hour drying cycle.
Where do I access public transportation?
Clifton Hall, Irwin Hall, and the Avenue Apartments are located seven blocks from the Rockridge BART station. Several AC Transit bus lines stop on the corner of College and Broadway, including Line 51, which frequently runs from downtown Oakland to downtown Berkeley.
Webster Hall is located just two blocks from the 12th Street BART station and bus lines (Line 51 also stops here). The CCA shuttle runs several times a day (Monday through Friday) from Webster Hall to the Oakland campus, and then to the San Francisco campus, and back again.
Is my room Internet compatible?
All rooms and apartments are equipped with ethernet access to the Internet. Wireless access (Wi-Fi) also is available in Clifton Hall and Webster Hall lounges. Connection information will be provided upon check in.
Where are the nearest banking facilities?
Three banks are located within a block of CCA's Oakland campus: Bank of America, Washington Mutual / Chase Manhattan, and Wells Fargo Bank. Near Webster Hall are Bank of America, Bank of the West, and Wells Fargo Bank.
