INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK (IEW) 2011
November 14–18, 2011
A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries, International Education Week (IEW) is a celebration and promotion of international education and exchange.
Since 2000 IEW has been an annual nationwide celebration that focuses on the importance of increasing knowledge and awareness of the world’s cultures among students and the wider campus community.
For members of the CCA community, we hope International Education Week will be an opportunity for you to learn something new, discover international opportunities in your program such as studying abroad which allows students to experience different cultural events.
The Office of International Student Affairs and Programs (ISAP) organizes specific events to celebrate international diversity here at CCA.
About International Education Week?
Here are the kinds of events that will take place during International Education Week:
- Interactive activities for students, faculty, and staff
- Internationally themed meals and activities
- Films, performances, guest speakers, and art exhibits
- "Hello, my name is . . . " -- a series of workshops to introduce foreign languages
How can I get involved in International Education Week on campus?
- Host or present, or both, an internationally focused program for the CCA community*
- Publicize IEW among your colleagues, students, and friends
- Offer your students extra credit for attending select IEW events
- Come and enjoy the events sponsored by your colleagues and students
We suggest you offer events during your regular class session and require your students (or others in your department) to attend.
Plan Your Own International Education Event
I want to plan an IE event. What’s the process?
All those interested in proposing an event should complete an event proposal form. We prefer proposal forms be completed digitally and emailed to the Office of International Student Affairs and Programs at jheinz@cca.edu.
Please note: Proposals for events unrelated to IEW will not be accepted. ISAP will promote your event through online and print-based marketing materials several weeks prior to IEW.
All events celebrating this week of cultural awareness and international appreciation will be compiled and posted at this page as a calendar view. To be included in the calendar, please complete the event proposal form by November 1.
Questions?
Please call the Coordinator of Community Support Joyna Heinz at 415.551.9268 if you have questions about your proposed event.
