"First Thursdays" are designed to be informal faculty gatherings where we have a chance to share ideas, drink, and food, make new connections, and build a stronger community.

All faculty members are invited to participate.

No lecture or formal presentation will be offered -- just a 3-5 minute introduction of the topic to spark conversation, and then the floor is yours!

Mark your calendars for the upcoming "First Thursdays" -- 11/1 and 12/6 -- and email me if you have any topic suggestions.

My hope is that some of the Oakland-based faculty will come to SF for First Thursdays gallery nights and will come a bit early to meet with faculty at CCA. I know this time will not work for all, and I am exploring other opportunities for faculty gatherings beyond these monthly socials.

I'm looking forward to the conversation!

In our inaugural "First Thursdays," we will discuss the topic of how new tools allow the amateur to become the expert and how this impacts pedagogy and practice in an art and design school.

Has Instagram changed photography? Has YouTube changed filmmaking? Have Blurb and Lulu changed writing and publishing? Have Kickstarter and Etsy changed the whole art and design business?

And the list goes on. But, so what? How does this change what we do at CCA?
