Founded in 1907, California College of the Arts (CCA) is an independent art college with undergraduate programs in architecture, design, fine arts, visual studies, and writing. The college also has graduate programs in architecture, curatorial practice, design, design strategy, fine arts, visual and critical studies and writing. The Humanities & Sciences Division houses the Critical Studies Program and offers the general education curriculum for all undergraduate students at the college. CCA’s general education curriculum consists of courses in social sciences, writing, literature, visual studies, history, philosophy, math, and natural/physical sciences. The undergraduate mission statement of the college emphasizes that CCA offers a liberal arts education through the arts. In keeping with this mission, the college offers a strong academic component that enriches students’ creative practices while adding to the breadth of knowledge they encounter.
California College of the Arts is seeking candidates for a ranked non-tenure* assistant or associate professor position to teach basic and advanced courses in electronics and / or programming to artists, architects, and designers. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three years teaching experience and have significant non-academic (i.e. professional/practical) experience in the areas of electronics and / or programming.
In the area of electronics, the successful candidate may have extensive knowledge of Arduino or other microcontrollers in a wide variety of applications as well as knowledge of basic programming. The candidate will also be demonstrably engaged with the interaction between science/technology and creative practices. The focus of this position is in electronics and programming but knowledge of the application of these fields to contemporary practices in art, craft, architect and design will be beneficial.

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, or substantial professional experience required.
*Ranked non-tenure faculty appointments are considered part time; they carry 3-year renewable terms, full benefits (including health benefits as well as eligibility for faculty grants), and a teaching load of 50-80% full time. Ranked non-tenure faculty are voting members of the faculty senate and fulfill academic service requirements.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
