This class addresses the transformation of emotional and verbal ideas into cinematic visual ideas or shots. Students will develop the ability to react to script or verbal notes design, composition, staging, color, and movement in 2D drawings for cinema, both animation and live-action. We will delve into the complexities of designing believable, relatable characters and sets based on a story of student's choice. Close story analysis will develop design criteria for sets and characters, and how they relate as an expression of emotions within a story or script arc. This will be a critique-based class, but we will also discuss creativity within the corporate structure, as well as pitching, presentation, and production pipeline. Students will primarily be drawing in 2D, but can also work in Photoshop.
