This course is a practical, hands-on examination of the basic elements needed in arts administration and organizational development. The focus is developing practical skills that will assist students in conceptualizing, developing, and maintaining art practices and non-profit art and cultural organizations. Students will explore what it takes to run a small to mid-size organization with a budget under $1 million. The organizational structure will be examined on three basic levels: the board of directors or advisory board, administration, and artistic products/processes. Focus areas include mission/vision of the organization, management structure, program planning and implementation both artistic & educational, community collaborations/partnerships, and identification of participants/audience.
