Desirée Holman is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Oakland, California. Her process involves fabricating (or, less frequently, appropriating) figurative props that are manipulated in role-playing games. The work questions what games of make-believe, like the ones created in her work or the ones created in multiuser online games or elsewhere, can tell us about ourselves and our behaviors in the so-called real world.
Exhibition venues include the Museum of Modern Art (Sao Paulo, Brazil); Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and New Langton Arts (San Francisco); Berkeley Art Museum (Berkeley, California); Nelson Gallery & Fine Arts Collection at UC Davis; The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art; Syracuse University; Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles); BnD Studios (Milan, Italy), and The Drake (Toronto, Ontario).
Holman is represented by San Francisco's Silverman Gallery.
