John Caponi is a creative director at Adobe in San Francisco. Since CS3 he has helped, in part or in total, direct the identities for Adobe's products and set the visual direction of the brand. He began his career as a designer with Winterland Productions, promoting musical acts through graphic t-shirts, posters and other music merchandising.
John had his first run with Adobe from 1990-1996, where he developed iconic imagery and campaigns for Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop. In 1997, he founded the creative studio design:unknown, focusing on advertising, design and motion graphics. design:unknown's mantra is to "Keep the concepts strong, the messages clear, and the design:unknown.”
Since the spring of 2014 John has taught the Graphic Design Tools class at CCA, where the students explore the software, hardware and other techniques and tools to create and execute impactful imagery. The primary software used are Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop with emphasis on good practices as well as exploration and discovery of new design tools.
John holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design and graduated with high honors. He has been recognized by awards from AIGA, Communication Arts, Graphis New Media, and other industry publications.
