Since the Fall of 2011, Patricia Motzkin has enjoyed teaching professional practice courses in the Interior Design and Architecture programs. As an accomplished professional and founder of Patricia Motzkin Architecture in Berkeley, Motzkin has successfully run her own award-winning design practice, creating custom residences, commercial renovations and interior spaces since 1990. She now enjoys working with students to impart lessons learned in practice and help guide them as they embark upon their professional journeys.
Motzkin is passionate about working with clients to make their dreams a reality. Her work includes commercial and residential interiors, new homes, remodels, additions and universal design, making homes adaptable for all ages and abilities. She understands that no two projects are alike and brings her clean, fresh design approach to meld seamlessly with any architectural style. She also believes that architectural design today must include working with the site, environmental conditions and sustainable materials. Her design of the Artistic Center for Berkeley Repertory Theatre is slated for LEED Silver performance. Motzkin has developed strong working relationships with officials in Bay Area building and planning departments, and excels at expediting projects through the approval process.
Motzkin holds a Master of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to establishing her firm, she spent eight years working for corporate firms in San Francisco. She lives in Oakland with her architect husband, Richard Feldman, Associate Principal at EHDD, in a house they designed. An active community member, Motzkin currently serves on the Berkeley Repertory Theater Facilities Committee and is a member of the American Institute of Architects. She is an avid traveler, hiker and reader of fiction. She seeks design inspiration in exploring museums and architecture around the world.
