Before assuming the role of chair of Graphic Design, Rachel Berger was a senior designer at SYPartners in San Francisco, where she worked with clients such as Virgin America, Levi Strauss & Co., AARP, Hyatt, IBM, Groupon, and AT&T. She has also worked at Pentagram Design in New York, working on Michael Bierut’s team for clients such as Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Museum of Arts and Design, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Her freelance clients include Yale School of Art, Yale School of Architecture, Yale Symphony Orchestra, and Artspace New Haven.
She taught graphic design and typography at Yale, and has taught in CCA's undergraduate Graphic Design Program and Graduate Program in Design. Her writings on design and culture have appeared in Design Observer, Significant Objects, and CLOG. She has contributed essays to Design School Wisdom and to the catalogues for All Possible Futures and Wide White Space. She was listed in the Wallpaper Graduate Directory 2010.
