Scott Thorpe is a partner in the San Francisco-based design studio MacFadden & Thorpe, and has taught in the Graphic Design and Design MFA programs at CCA since 2009. His work has been recognized by numerous publications and has shown at the International Biennial of Graphic Design in Brno, Czech Republic, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, and in the 2014 international graphic design exhibition, All Possible Futures, in San Francisco.
MacFadden & Thorpe’s work encompasses a broad range of clients and project types, including publications, branding, interactive, and experimental typography. With The Thing Quarterly they’ve collaborated with many prominent artists, writers and filmmakers, such as Mike Mills, James Franco, Rodarte, Starlee Kine, and David Shrigley; as well as on art projects with Nike and Levi’s. In 2013 they created the publishing house Plumb, with the artist Tucker Nichols and publisher Knock-Knock. They focus their work through an overall ethos of quality, and a pragmatic approach to bringing ideas into reality. They believe in partnership and the ability of design to improve and clarify.
