Writing for the Moving Image

This is a creative writing class for students who wish to combine writing and moving images. The media arts such as film/video, photography and internet based graphic works fluidly integrate image and text through audio and graphic elements. The relationship of poetic language and image will be explored through in-class writing exercises and through a critical look of contemporary artists working with text and image in the time-based arts. One film each week will be on reserve in the library for viewing and students will complete a written response to these films. Each student will be required to complete the written component of one time-based media project or a series of three shorts by the end of the semester. In-class writing exercises will be given every week with the exception of classes with guest lecturers.
