Artists working with both handmade and machine made processes will be best served by this course. This class is not for the purist. Let us first acknowledge the potentially misleading nature of the terms 'hand made' and 'machine made' as they relate to the objet d'art, image or action. Rarely are these descriptors accurate. This class will ask you to embrace and challenge its' thematic foundation. The majority of the class time will be focused on critique of student work; however, we will also be reading and discussing historical, theoretical and philosophical interpretations of the hand made and the machine made. We will discuss what each connotes and what happens when the two collide.
